Alaska’s Kodiak Island is the kingdom of the brown bears and a fresh start for the Everblue family. That’s the idea, at least. But the troubles that lie ahead are enough to put relationships to the test—with each other, and themselves.

College sweethearts with two young children, Jason and Brenda Everblue are already grappling with their troubled marriage when they make the move. Leaving behind their careers, their home, and the life they know, the couple only has each other to rely on as they learn how to live off the grid and off the land. Jason believes this isolation is the cure to the world’s corruption, while Brenda’s skepticism sees past her husband’s rose-colored glasses.

Yet magical things happen at the Wildwood homestead. Amid the tempestuous Alaskan wilderness, the Everblues share the triumphs and joys of this new life. They do everything for survival, and in doing so they discover its worth. No longer do phones and internet, cars and other conveniences, rule their day-to-day. There is nothing to distract them from what truly matters.

But when things take a dangerous turn, their insulated existence transforms from peaceful to perilous.

Violent storms and vicious bears aren’t their only challenges. When a group of strangers lands on Wildwood’s doorstep, Jason’s idealism shatters and Brenda’s strength falters. They have to come together against the threat of these poachers, or risk losing everything they’ve tried so hard to save.
