In the Wild, Love Must Survive
Rain on the Roof, Wind in the Spruce
Alaska’s Kodiak Island: the island kingdom of the brown bears. A wilderness cabin. A fresh start.
Jason and Brenda Everblue, college sweethearts grappling with a troubled marriage, move off the grid with their two young children. No cars, no groceries, no internet, no services. Jason believes that through isolation he can insulate his family from the world’s corruption. Brenda believes we carry the corruption inside us and doubts that Wildwood can be the ideal place Jason imagines.
Magical things happen at Wildwood. The Everblues share the joys and triumphs of a life lived in daily intimacy with one another and the land. But the hazards of extreme isolation, violent weather and aggressive bears challenge them at every turn. The arrival of poachers reminds them that it’s impossible to escape the world. Brenda falls ill even as Jason is caught in an escalating conflict with the intruders. The Everblues have much to learn about love and courage and the bonds of family. Their survival depends on it.
